About Dr. Henry
In college, I was initially drawn to the field of psychology because I wanted to better understand how people think and why we engaged in certain behaviors. Now much later and with several years of clinical experience, I enjoy helping clients increase their awareness, gain insights into their behaviors, enhance their motivation and initiate practical steps to move them closer to their self-improvement and mental wellness goals.
I am a licensed psychologist in the states of New Jersey and Pennsylvania. My Ph.D. in Psychology (with an emphasis in Clinical Psychology) was obtained from the University of Cincinnati. Throughout graduate school and beyond, I cultivated a specialization in addiction treatment. I completed an APA approved pre-doctoral internship at Yale University and a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in the areas of substance abuse and chemical dependency treatment respectively. In the past, I have provided psychological services to clients in a variety of settings including VA hospitals, university counseling centers, residential addiction treatment centers, correctional centers, neurology/MS clinic, mental health community centers and outpatient facilities.
Clinically, I have experience in treating depression, anxiety, addictions (alcohol, drug and gambling), and other mental health issues that many adults face. I have also gained experience in geropsychology (working with older adults) while providing psychotherapy services in assisted living and nursing home facilities. My therapeutic approach is mainly rooted in cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT); although I often incorporate therapeutic interventions from other theoretical orientations as well. I also have specialized training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), an evidence-based structured therapy approach that can be effective in reducing the emotional impact of trauma or distressing memories and help promote recovery from traumatic experiences. Whether you are dealing with depression, anxiety, gambling, substance abuse, grief, chronic illness, parenting challenges, college or grad school academic stress, empty nest, marital problems, aging and life after retirement, or other stressors due to the life transitions, I am ready to provide you with therapeutic support and evidence-based strategies to help you better cope and thrive in your environment. Reach out and contact me at 908-386-2100. I look forward to connecting with you today.
